Our Story
Fanosia exists because buying a light in Egypt is harder than it should be.
Not because there is nothing to buy — there is plenty. Because of everything around it: a delivery date that turns out to be a suggestion, a price that depends on how you ask, a return policy that exists until you try to use it, and a photo that looks nothing like the box that arrives.
That gap between the promise and the delivery is the thing we set out to close. The lamp is the easy part. The experience is the product.
In the founder's words
The name
Fanous — فانوس — is the Egyptian word for lantern. It carries a set of associations here that no English word does: light as celebration, as welcome, as something handmade and passed down. It is also the object itself, hammered brass with light escaping through cut metal, which is still one of the most beautiful things this country makes.
We took the name because it is ours. The ambition is to carry it further than Egypt, but this is where it starts and this is where it belongs.
The Fanosia Promise
Written down, in numbers, so you can hold us to them:
Free pickup from your door, and your money back within 72 hours
Tell us within 14 days. Our courier collects the piece from your door, free, and your money is back within 72 hours of pickup. We do not ask you why, installed and tested is fine, and there is no restocking fee. In a market where a refund usually takes two to four weeks, this is the promise we lead with.
The reason this matters is simple: a return policy that punishes you for using it is not a return policy. It is a deterrent.
Delivered in 2–4 days in Cairo and Giza
Up to 7 days everywhere else in Egypt, on every piece we hold in stock. Pieces made to order show their own lead time, up front, instead of a promise we could not keep.
Three years of warranty
On every piece, covering the structure, the finish and the electrics we supply. Not on the expensive ones only. Every piece.
What we won't do
We put this in writing too, because what we say in public, you can hold us to:
- No invented discounts. No crossed-out price that was never charged, no permanent "70% off". If we run a real promotion, we will say what it is and when it ends.
- No fake urgency. No countdown timers that reset, no invented stock counts, no "12 people are viewing this". If we say two left, there are two left.
- No borrowed photos, and no invented reviews. Every product photo is the real product. Sometimes the room behind it is built digitally; the light itself never is. Reviews will come from real customers, or not at all.
- No guessed specs. Where a detail is not yet confirmed, we would rather leave it off the page than guess at it.
Some of these cost us sales. We know. They are still the terms.
Where the pieces come from
We curate rather than manufacture — for now. Our range comes from Egyptian workshops and established manufacturers, chosen piece by piece rather than taken as a catalogue. Every piece is unboxed, wired, lit, measured and photographed by us before it is sold. Nothing is stocked to fill a category.
Over time that changes: our own designs, our own supply line, and eventually a Fanosia look you could recognise across a room. That is the plan, and we are at the beginning of it.
Who we're for
Mostly, people setting up a home for the first time — the couple furnishing an empty flat with a list, a budget and no particular wish to become experts in Kelvin ratings. That is why we write guides instead of brochures, and why our size guide gives you the formula instead of just telling you to call.
Also interior designers, who have their own route in; anyone buying light as a gift; and anyone who has bought a light in Egypt before and would like this time to be different.
Where we are now
At the start. We are a new brand with a small, deliberately chosen range and a set of promises we have not yet had a thousand chances to prove.
What we can offer in the meantime is that the promises are written down, in public, in specific numbers. As orders arrive, we will show real deliveries and real refunds, with our customers' permission. And if we ever fail to keep a promise, you will have this page to point at.
Talk to us. We answer.
